About
Built by someone who reviewed these disclosures — and found them wanting.
Annika Lindqvist founded Carbonkindle after three years reviewing portfolio company climate disclosures and realising the data problem wasn't ignorance — it was tooling.
Founder story
Why Carbonkindle exists.
Before founding Carbonkindle, Annika worked as a sustainability data analyst at a European financial services firm in Stockholm. Her work required reviewing the climate disclosures of portfolio companies — checking whether their Scope 1, 2, and 3 figures were methodologically defensible and whether the data could survive an auditor's scrutiny. US companies with EU subsidiaries came up repeatedly. Not because their operations were unusually high-impact, but because they had no systematic process: figures produced in spreadsheets, emission factors sourced inconsistently, and Scope 3 either absent or acknowledged to be incomplete with no plan to improve it.
When CSRD and its ESRS E1 climate disclosure requirements became concrete legislation, the gap stopped being a problem in the future. Companies with 2026 and 2027 phased-in obligations needed a path from scattered utility invoices and purchase records to a verifiable, structured inventory — measured in months, not years.
Carbonkindle is the platform Annika wished she could point those companies to. It is built on the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and IPCC AR6 emission factors, not proprietary models. Every calculation is traceable to its source. And it is designed for companies doing this for the first time — not for those with an established sustainability infrastructure.
Carbonkindle was incorporated in New York in 2023, shipped its first Scope 1 and 2 calculation engine in Q4 2023, and received $975K in angel funding in September 2025. The team is four people. The office is on West 14th Street, in New York's Meatpacking District.
What we stand for
Three values that shape the platform.
Methodological precision
Every CO₂e figure has a source citation: IPCC AR6, EPA eGRID, DEFRA, or Ecoinvent — and the version and vintage of the factor used. Disclosure-grade accuracy requires showing your work. Ours is shown.
Regulatory clarity
We do not claim certification we have not earned. Carbonkindle is designed for alignment with the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and CSRD ESRS E1 — not certified by them. The Protocol is a framework, not an accreditation body. The distinction matters to auditors.
No greenwashing
We build for measurement, not marketing. Carbonkindle does not sell carbon credits, does not bundle offset purchases, and does not conflate offset activity with operational emissions reduction. Measurement comes before claims. Always.

Carbonkindle founded
Annika incorporated Carbonkindle in New York, with a focus on building CSRD-ready carbon accounting for US-EU cross-border companies.
First MVP shipped
Initial Scope 1 and 2 calculation engine with EPA and DEFRA emission factor library. First beta users onboarded.
Scope 3 engine built
Full 15-category Scope 3 module added, backed by Ecoinvent spend-based factors. CSRD ESRS E1 report builder integrated.
Angel funding closed
$975K angel round closed. Team expanded to four. Pilot customers from apparel, logistics, and manufacturing industries onboarded.
First paying customers
Measure and Report tiers launched. Three pilot companies producing their first disclosure-grade GHG inventories.
The team
Four people, one mission.
Climate science, engineering, and customer success — the expertise needed to build and support a rigorous carbon accounting platform.
